A French citizen originally from Cote d’Ivoire, Roger Kacou has been based in Cairo as Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts’ Senior Vice President Africa since September 2010.What is your favorite destination in Egypt?
Tough question. Well, I’ve visited all the places where we have hotels — Aswan, the Red Sea. I have to say I liked Aswan. There is some culture. If I would go somewhere, I need to get some additional knowledge out of this trip. This I would get going to Upper Egypt, not, for example, by going to the beach. Make use of some time to get some additional knowledge about paintings, about art.
What’s your favorite restaurant in Cairo outside of the Movenpick family?
I like the La Maison Blanche [at First Mall next to the Four Seasons First Residence in Giza]. It’s a nice restaurant, but not to go every day. To celebrate something, you go there.
What’s your favorite dish when you’re eating at a Movenpick hotel in Egypt?
Movenpick is known for its food and beverage. In fact, we started with food and beverage. We started with the restaurants, the ice cream and further developed into hotels. We have signature dishes at the hotels, but they are all a bit Swiss, originally the company is Swiss. My food is French food, which I don’t think we offer apart from a few French dishes. Then I would go for Asian food — Chinese, Japanese.
If you could recommend one thing in Egypt for an Egyptian to discover, what would it be?
I would say go out and discover your own country, its culture, because Egypt is diverse culturally. Take advantage of your free time to better know your country, I would say. There are a lot of things to discover. |
