Check Out the Caravan
The ‘caravan’ is coming back to town — the Caravan Festival of the Arts, that is. Now in its third year, this cross-cultural event is held at St. JohnChurch in Maadi, bringing together local and international artists, entertainers, and religious thinkers such as Sheikh Al-Azhar Ahmed El Tayeb to build bridges of understanding between East and West through the arts. |
Originally scheduled for February 3–9, the festival has been postponed due to protest events in Egypt; the new schedule had not yet been posted at press time.
Reza Aslan, Iranian-American author of the New York Times bestselling No God but God, is expected to attend both the opening night and Literature Night. International actor Khalid Abdalla ( Green Zone and The Kite Runner) is scheduled for Film Night, while popular ney (flute) player Mohamed Antar will be Music Night’s guest of honor. Anchoring the Caravan is a week-long art exhibition, featuring the works of 45 Eastern and Western artists, including Egypt’s leading contemporary artist Mohamed Abla and expatriate artists like Roland Prime.
Entrance is free, with 20 percent of the art sales donated to charities in the Middle East.

Wine And Dine At Tamarai
Cairo’s number one night spot has once again proved that partying in winter can be as much fun as partying in summer. With its newly renovated spacious and contemporary indoor area, it is the perfect place for dancing, chatting over drinks or enjoying an exquisite three-course dinner. Tamarai has revamped its menu to create a mouthwatering selection of appetizers, entrees and desserts. |
Their ostrich dish is definitely the star of the Mediterranean fusion menu. So, instead of just showing up late to party, try going a little early to enjoy Chef Marc Framinet’s show-stopping menu for dinner. The new a la carte dinner menu is served from 8-12pm every Saturday to Wednesday.
