Egyptian, Sri Lankan presidents discuss economic, diplomatic cooperation

CAIRO – 16 March 2021: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi received Tuesday a phone call from Sri Lanka President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to discuss bilateral relations, Spokesperson of Presidency Bassam Rady stated.

 

The Sri Lankan president said he valued the excellent ties between both countries. He further affirmed keenness on reinforcing relations with Egypt in all sectors, and on the international community level given Egypt's leading role in the region and globally, and in the realm of combating terrorism and achieving security and stability in the Middle East.

 

On his side, the Egyptian president welcomed intensifying cooperation with Sri Lanka in light of the historic ties between both countries. He added that Egypt is eager to bolster bilateral relations with Sri Lanka, particularly on the economic level and in terms of joint investments. That falls within the developmental and economic endeavors Egypt is undertaking as well as its mega national projects that are still under progress.

 

Both chiefs of state also conferred over exchanging experience in various fields such as dealing with COVID-19 outbreak, counterterrorism, and combating extremist ideologies.
