CAIRO – 18 February 2021: Incumbent head of the Egyptian Press Syndicate Diaa Rashwan submitted on Thursday his candidacy papers to run for another term in the post.
The syndicate started to receive candidacy papers on Thursday from those willing to run for the post until a deadline that is scheduled on February 22.
On the first day, four people has submitted their candidacy papers to run for syndicate’s head, according to local reports.
They include Sayed El-Eskandrany, deputy chief editor of state-run newspaper Al-Gomhouria; Refaat Rashad, a member of the Board of Directors of state-run Akhbar Al-Youm and Talaat Hashem, chief editor of Masr Al-Fatah newspaper.
Rashwan, 60, served as head of the Press Syndicate from 2013 to 2015 and was again reelected in 2019.
He has been a strong opposer to the government of late Muslim Brotherhood leader and President Mohamed Morsi and a strong supporter to the 2013 Revolution that ousted the president.
He also took part in the 50-member constitution committee former in 2013 to draft Egypt's current constitution.
