CAIRO – 15 February 2021: Egyptian Deputy Foreign Minister for African Affairs Hamdi Sanad Loza has participated in the 7th Ordinary Session of the G5 Sahel heads of State (Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, Mauritania, and Niger) summit that is being held in the Chadian capital, N'Djamena, on February 15 and 16, according to a statement from the Egyptian Foreign Ministry on Monday.
During the summit, Chad has received the presidency of the G5 Sahel from Mauritania, tackling the regional efforts in combating terrorism, enhancement of development, and ways of overcoming the repercussions of coronavirus pandemic during the coming period.
Egypt is an important partner for the Sahel countries, contributes to building the capabilities of these countries in the civil and military fields; Egypt participates in United Nations peacekeepers in Mali. It also hosted a meeting of the chiefs of staff of the G5 Sahel countries in February 2020.
In addition to this, the Al-Azhar institute and the Ministry of Endowments send scholars to these countries to fight the spread of extremist ideology among the youth.
