CAIRO – 15 February 2021: President of Cairo University Mohamed Othman el-Khosht carried out an inspection visit to the National Cancer Institute in Cairo to follow up on the development works that kicked off since a bombing stroke the building in 2019.
Egypt Today publishes pictures of the institute after development works were implemented before its inauguration.
In August 2019, a deadly terrorist explosion hit outside Egypt’s National Cancer Institute, killing at least 20 people and injuring 30 others. The blast occurred when a car laden with explosives collided with three other cars.
The development works of the institute include rehabilitation of the building, repair of internal and external facades, floors and lecture halls, in addition to renewable works of emergency area, the main entrance hall and clinics, after the damages caused by the explosion.
The development work of the National Cancer Institute also includes the rehabilitation of the southern building, and expanding its capacity, which adds 6 operating rooms, 18 intensive care beds, 145 patients' beds and 110 daily chemotherapy chairs.
The average number of patients attending annually to the National Cancer Institute is more than 300 thousand patients in the outpatient clinics in the main building, and more than 95 thousand patients in the clinics of the Breast Hospital, the number of patient admission is 6,650, and the total number of beds in the institute is currently 316 beds.
