Al Ahly defeated Brazilian giants, Palmeiras, 3-2 on penalties in the FIFA Club World Cup third-place playoff to win the bronze medal for the second time in the club’s history.
“[I extend] my sincere congratulations to the Al Ahly SC team for winning the third place at the Club World Cup and for the honorable performance,” the president said in a tweet.
“I also affirm that the state would spare no effort in supporting and sponsoring sports and Egyptian youth in all team and individual sports.”
“I wish continued progress and success for the Egyptian sports at all levels,” Sisi added.
Al Ahly SC team arrived in Cairo on Friday on board special EgyptAir flight, after they won the historic bronze medal at the championship. The Red Devils were received by the EgyptAir flight crew in Qatar with flowers and chocolate.

Following the final, Al Ahly players received the bronze medals by FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
