Egyptian Women Can Conference - 1st session - Press Photo
CAIRO – 2 July 2017: Minister of Immigration and Expatriate Affairs, Nabila Makram Wassef, said during an interview with “Extra News” TV channel on Sunday that the ministry will organize the ‘Egypt can 3’conference in December. Makram explained that the exact theme of the conference is not yet defined.
The interview was held on the sidelines of the “Egypt can by women” conference. Wassef stated, "Once we conclude this conference, preparations will start for the ‘Egypt Can 3’ conference.”
The minister added, “While in service, I witnessed Egyptian women raising their children and supporting their husbands to overcome life challenges. They also encouraged their husbands to transfer money to Egypt.”
Wassef stressed that “expat Egyptian women are always the first to welcome President Sisi whenever he visits any country.” Adding that, “they wait for him at the doors of Egyptian embassies abroad holding the Egyptian flag.”
She also said that “it is about time to put women issues on the agenda of the Ministry of Immigration.”
Prime Minister Sherif Ismail gave directives during the conference to communicate with all Egyptians abroad to identify and meet their needs with special focus on children and people with disabilities.
The “Egyptian Women Can”’ conference is organized by the Ministry of Immigration and Expatriate Affairs under the auspices of President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi and in cooperation with the National Council for Women (NCW) takes place July 2-3. The two-day conference aims to strengthen the role of female Egyptian expatriates in developing Egypt and to achieve the sustainable development goals of “Egypt Vision 2030.” It also shed light on the achievements of such women in all fields to serve as role models for new generations of young men and women.
The conference comes as part of the “Al Taa Marbouta is your strength” (She is your strength) awareness campaign launched by the NCW during the month of Ramadan to support and empower Egyptian women and highlight the importance of women's participation in all economic, political and social sectors.
A total of 31 expat female Egyptian experts in scientific, intellectual and academic fields will participate in the conference which comes in conjunction with President al-Sisi’s announcement that 2017 is the ‘year of Egyptian women’ and the national initiative to enable Egyptian women.
