CAIRO – 4 February 2021: Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shokry received Wednesday a phone call from European Union Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Oliver Varhelyi to discuss cooperation opportunities, and for the EU official to learn about developmental projects carried out in various sectors in Egypt in partnership with European countries.
Minister Shokry said that Egypt looks forward to expand developmental cooperation with the European Union, particularly in mitigating the economic impact of COVID-19 pandemic. That is by supporting social safety programs targeted at the most vulnerable segments, and by helping Egypt benefit from specialized technical assistance programs offered by the EU as the country aims for developing certain sectors.
On his part, Varhelyi affirmed that strengthening partnership with Egypt is a priority for the EU, and that EU institutions are ready to get involved in a fast pace with Egypt to set off developmental and investment projects that serve mutual interests.
