CAIRO – 1 February 2020: Egypt’s Financial Regulatory Authority (FRA) chaired by Mohamed Omran decided, Monday to donate LE 250 million to support state’s efforts to provide coronavirus vaccines for people in-need
FRA added in a statement that this donation allocated to the disaster account affiliated with the state’s “Tahiya Misr Fund” aims to provide vaccines for the most vulnerable categories of the society including patients with chronic diseases and elderly.
FRA also urged all bodies, companies and unions operating in non-banking activities to join such initiative to back the state's efforts to support the various categories of the society which are in dire need for vaccination.
Last March, FRA decided, to donate LE250 millions of its available surplus to support the state's efforts to mitigate the impact of the coronavirus outbreak on the society's most needy categories which will be economically harmed by the current crisis.
Egypt has recently started vaccinating the medical teams in isolation hospitals, as senior citizens and people with chronic disease are expected to receive their vaccinations later February
A total of 1,315 medical personnel in isolation hospitals have been vaccinated against the virus for far, while more than 3,000 people registered online to receive the vaccine.
Egypt received the first batch of the Oxford-AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine (50,000 doses) on Sunday.
The Egyptian Authority for Unified Procurement, Medical Supply and Technology Management (AUPP) contracted with the British-Swedish pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical company to get 20 million doses of the Coronavirus vaccine.
Major General Doctor Bahaa El-Din Zidan, Chairman of the AUPP Board of Directors said that vaccines are safe and effective, saying “we support all the state's efforts to confront the Coronavirus, especially in providing vaccines and drugs.”
Spokesperson of the Health Ministry Khaled Megahed said on Wednesday evening in media remarks to the “DMC Evening” talk show, that the Egyptian Drug Authority is taking the necessary measures for authorizing the Russian Coronavirus vaccine.
