CAIRO – 31 January 2021: Egypt’s Supreme Council for Media Regulation referred a number of websites and newspapers to urgent investigations, due to exaggerating the publication of “unethical content” that offend society, the family, and those who dealt with them.
In a statement, the council said crimes of immoral publications have been monitored recently, besides receiving a number of complaints from citizens about the “reputation and honor of ordinary citizens.”
The statement did not reveal the names or the number of the news outlets under investigation.
In March 2020, the council urged all channels and press institutions to disinfect their premises and allow employees to work on a rotational basis as part of the state's precautionary measures against the novel coronavirus outbreak.
In a statement, the council also called for eliminating any obstacles facing female employees on that score, especially those with children under 12 years old.
The council released its statement after receiving a number of complaints from some media workers regarding non-compliance with the state's medical and health requirements at their workplace.
SCMR officials will be assigned to carry out field visits to media institutions to ensure their conformity with these requirements, the council said, warning that no violations will be tolerated.
