CAIRO – 19 January 2021: A Russian committee consisting of transportation, aviation, and security officials will visit Hurghada International Airport on January 27 to check on security and COVID-19 preventive measures.

The process will take place for a week as that should be the last visit of its kind within a series of negotiations to resume direct Russian flights to the resort town. The flights were suspended in 2015 when a jet crashed over Sinai Peninsula, suspectedly because of a bomb.

EgyptAir declared in December sealing deals with large travel agencies in Romania to operate flights from Bucharest and Cluj to Sharm El Sheikh and Hurghada during Christmas holidays.

The jets operated are Airbus A320Neo, Airbus A220-300, and Boeing B737-800.

Between December 30 and January 15, the airline operated internally 107 flights to Shram El Sheikh; 80 flights to Luxor; 92 flights to Hurghada; 86 flights to Aswan; two flights to Marsa Alam and Taba. The total is 368 and the daily average is 18.
