CAIRO – 14 January 2021: Lebanese Prime Minister-designate Saad al-Hariri has paid an unannounced visit to Dubai on Wednesday and he is waiting for an entry visa from Egypt to arrive in Cairo where he would meet with President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, reported Lebanese newspaper “Al-Akhbar” on Thursday.

Anonymous sources told the newspaper that Harir’s visit could send a message that he is not internationally isolated like the caretaker prime minister Hassan Diab.

Hairir’s tour to some Arab countries comes amid interior disagreements between him and Lebanese President Michel Aoun over forming a government.

Two days ago, a video was leaked showing that President Aoun accused Hariri of “lying”. According to the video, Aoun was in a meeting with the caretaker prime minister, who asked about the latest development of forming the new government. In response, President Aoun said, “he [Hariri] gave me a paper […] He is lying.”

On October 22, 2020, Aoun asked Hariri to form the new government. In the previous year, Hariri, who was the Prime Minister at that time, resigned following popular protests.
