CAIRO - 14 January 2021: Speaker of Egypt’s Al-Shura Council during the tenure of the deceased President Hosni Mubarak died late on Wednesday aged 88 after suffering from Leukemia, his son, Ehab, said.
Sherif had suffered from Leukemia for six years, Ehab said, adding that he was transferred to Wadi Al-Nile Hospital during the past few days after suffering from pain.
Ehab denied recent news that Sherif had contracted the novel coronavirus.
The funeral will be held after the Dhuhr prayer (Muslim’s early afternoon prayer) on Thursday (12:04 Cairo time) from a mosque in Cairo.
During the tenure of Mubarak, El Sherif served as Chairman of the State Information Service, Minister of Information, Secretary General of the ruling National Democratic Party, and Head of the Supreme Press Council.
