CAIRO – 1 July 2017: Egypt’s Supreme Media Regulatory Council announced Friday that it will form an experts committee to set the main standards for the Television viewership measurement, Makram Mohamed Ahmed, head of the Supreme Media Council said.

He further added that the state media regulator mulls over the idea of setting up a national company, which will be eligible to solely monitor the process of figuring out the TV-watching public.

This move came following a number number of satellite channels and companies’ move to lodge complaints against Ipsos, the French market and public opinion Research Company, accusing it of misleading public opinion by manipulating viewership rates.

In response, Egypt’s Supreme Media Regulatory Council issued a statement in Late June that stipulated that it will halt all surveys conducted by companies and private agencies until it releases the objective and reliable standards to officially and properly regulate the process.
