9 police personnel sentenced to 3 years in prison for torturing a citizen to death in Egypt

CAIRO – 12 December 2020: A Cairo Criminal Court sentenced nine police personnel to three years in prison on Saturday for torturing a citizen to death in a police station in November 2017.

 

During the trial, another policeman was acquitted of the charges. 

 

The trial was held against a police officer and nine policemen for torturing Magdy Makeen, 51 years, inside Al- Amiriya police station, Cairo, in November 2017 after arresting him and his friends.

 

The General Prosecution charged the defendants with the charges of torturing the victim to death, causing injuries to his friends, and forging an arrest report against Makeen.
