CAIRO – 7 December 2020: Owner of Juhayna Company Safwan Thabet, Owner of Tawheed & El-Nour stores Sayed el Sawirki and former Minister of Manpower Khaled el-Azhari will be detained pending investigations into accusations of funding a terrorist group.

 

A legal source revealed that the three are sent to Torah Prison, southern Cairo, where they will be held in custody for 15 days per prosecution decision.

 

They are accused of joining an outlawed group, financing a terrorist group, calling for unauthorized protests, inciting violence among other charges.

 

The prosecution has also drawn a number of charges against the three, including: publishing false news about the political and economic situation in the country with the aim of disturbing the public peace; promoting the group’s objectives aimed at undermining confidence in the Egyptian state and its institutions; joining a terrorist group and receiving funding for a terrorist purpose.
