CAIRO – 30 November 2020: The Egyptian Public Prosecution and Italy's Public Prosecution in Rome issued a joint statement on Monday on the murder of Italian student Giulio Regeni after being tortured in Cairo in 2016.
The Rome Prosecution decided that five suspects belonging to security authorities are suspects in Regeni's murder. However, the Egyptian prosecution sees the suspicion "baseless,” read the statement.
The Egyptian Prosecution says it has firm evidence that Regeni had been robbed by a gang that had committed similar crimes using fake documents claiming they are part of an Egyptian security authority.
It added that the murderer of Regeni is still unknown.
Further details to be provided.
