Egypt’s Ministry working on digitizing litigation system

CAIRO – 29 November 2020: Egypt’s Minister of Justice Omar Marwan said that the Ministry headed to digitizing the litigation system, noting that filing legal cases or suing can be conducted remotely.

 

In an interview with Akher al-Nahar talk who on Al-Nahar T.V. on Saturday, he said that the Ministry is still working in the first stage of digitizing the litigation system, noting that the new system would be applied firstly in the courts of the Fifth Settlement, New Cairo.

 

On November 5, 2020, an Alexandria court held the first online hearing session, in a bid by the Ministry to upgrade the courts with digital transformation and reduce face-to-face interaction amid the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19).

 

This move aims at facilitating the judiciary services for the citizens, and reducing the congestion in the corridors of courts, in light of the preventive and precautionary measures to curb the virus spread.

 

The Alexandria court has equipped 30 halls allocated for misdemeanor cases with digital devices, and 6 other halls for the pretrial detention.

  

In March 2020, the Minister of Justice closed the Egyptian courts for two months due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
