SUSTAINABILITY AND ENTERPRISE FOR THE RECOVERY PLAN
CAIRO - 9 November 2020: The opening of the digital edition of the two Italian Exhibition Group expos was held on the 3rd of November, major reference points for the circular economy and renewable energies. Four hundred companies will be on the online platform until 15th November sharing green technological excellence. IEG President Lorenzo Cagnoni, ”Thanks go to the entrepreneurs who accepted this opportunity”
The market and innovative technologies on the digital platform for the development of the Green Economy. This is how Italian Exhibition Group’s Ecomondo and Key Energy 2020 expos presented themselves at the opening: with a digital edition which until 15th November turns the spotlight on Italy’s productive excellence and a calendar of 140 scientific and economic policy conferences, precisely when the national Recovery Plan for coming through the pandemic is being prepared.
The two expos, international reference points for the circular economy and renewable energies, opened in Rimini with participation in live streaming and via video links.
“IEG President Lorenzo Cagnoni opened his initial greeting, stating, “2020 is a year that will be remembered for a long time. At IEG we re-thought our two expos, replanning them in a wider digital format. The response of approximately 400 companies is very positive, and for this reason we wish to thank the entrepreneurs who accepted to be with us and take advantage of the opportunities offered by the new digital instruments.”
“Ecomondo enabled us to understand”, reminded Rimini’s Mayor Andrea Gnassi, “that development is not an antagonist of the environment. For mayors, action consists in town planning, and perhaps without Ecomondo we would have thought differently. We saw the experiences of some Northern European cities and translated them into our language. Now the Government and Regions must support and reward towns that embark on a route on which waste management, water protection and the prevention of hydrogeological risks are assets that become part of development.”
Elly Schlein, vice-president of the Emilia-Romagna Region, said, “The wind is changing in Europe and an extraordinary contribution can arrive from Ecomondo and Key Energy, which serve the entire country to embrace what is a necessary turning point. The Emilia-Romagna Region, along with the trade unions, trade associations, the service and utility sector the associations committed to the pact for the climate, is writing a document that establishes a strategic vision combining recovery and quality employment with two macro aspects: decarbonization before 2050 and crossing over to clean energies by 2035.”
“We shall do our best”, summed up Professor Fabio Fava, Chairman of the IEG expo’s Scientific Committee, “to share the best industrial and international cooperation excellence. We shall discuss research and innovation, regulatory and policy aspects in the framework of the European Green Deal, making certain to describe the impact that the pandemic has had on our constructed and natural heritage. We shall do so along with the ministers, the European Commission, the OECD and the United Nations. These coming days will help each of us, according to our roles, to plan a more effective wiser recovery.”
Gianni Silvestrini, Chairman of the Key Energy Scientific Committee, commented, “Europe has decided to raise it targets on climate changing gas emissions to 55%. We asked Milan Polytechnic what this objective means for Italy. For example, photovoltaic will have to be more than tripled. We have an extraordinary opportunity for some sectors to be strengthened from an industrial point of view: electric mobility, hydrogen electrolysers, photovoltaic and off-shore wind power.”
ITA Italian Trade Agency Director Roberto Luongo said, “The internationalization impulse of Ecomondo and Key Energy, with 350 foreign buyers and journalists and 1,250 meetings, is fundamental for a reason: people often do not know that Italy is a world leader in green technologies. It is a fundamental aspect of our industrial system, but we must make everybody aware of this, and what better world showcase than Ecomondo and Key Energy to do so?”
Minister for Foreign Affairs Luigi Di Maio stated, “Ecomondo and Key Energy are expos that present technologies in which Italy is a trailblazer: systems able to greatly multiply both jobs created and wealth produced. 432,000 companies have invested in green technology. Those who chose sustainability are more competitive on the foreign markets and green jobs in Italy have exceeded the three million mark. The Government is heading in this direction and the Foreign Ministry is committed to boosting international expos like Ecomondo and Key Energy.”
“This is the third Ecomondo-Key Energy inauguration I have participated in, with great Italian pride”, concluded Italy’s Minister for the Environment Sergio Costa. Listening to what is said at Ecomondo is very important for approaching the political world, which is the connecting link with the production and manufacturing world. Creating economic value and employment, reducing health and environment risks enables people to feel that they are key players in the changes. This is the route I imagine for the Recovery Plan. Here is the challenge for the next year - we have three years, not thirty, to win it
The opening ceremony was followed by the plenary session of the States General of the Green Economy, at which Edo Ronchi, president of the Sustainable Development Foundation, described the state of the of the art of the circular economy in Italy after the Covid-19. In the meantime, conferences and business meetings proceed on the IEG digital platform, confirming how dynamic and productive the green economy world is.
