CAIRO – 6 November 2020: Egypt’s First Lady Entissar Amer met on Thursday with the First Lady of DR Congo, Denise Nyakeru Tshisekedi, who is visiting Egypt as part of a high-level delegation.

“Today I had the pleasure to meet Mrs. Denise Tshisekedi, the wife of the president of the Democratic Republic of Congo, during her visit to Egypt, as part of a high-level delegation … within the framework of strengthening the friendship and brotherly ties between the two countries,” Amer said in a Facebook post.

DR Congo’s first lady, earlier during her visit to Egypt, visited the Pyramids and expressed admiration of ancient Egyptians, who could build these giant pyramids and sphinx.

On Wednesday, a high-level Congolese delegation met with the Egyptian president and conveyed him a message from his Congolese president hailing Egypt’s support to efforts to preserve peace in DR Congo.

The delegation was led by a special adviser to the Congolese president.

The message also expressed appreciation to Egypt’s support to DR Congo in all regional and international forums and to the brotherly relations linking the two countries, Egyptian Presidential spokesman Bassam Radi said.

It also affirmed keenness to continue enhancing these relations, especially in the developmental fields.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi asked to convey his greetings to Congolese President Félix Tshisekedi, stressing that Egypt would continue to support DR Congo at all levels in order to achieve stability, development and progress for the Congolese people.

This comes as an extension of the distinguished historical relations between the two countries, which represent a model for cooperation and joint coordination within the African continent, the spokesman said.

The meeting also discussed a number of African issues of mutual concern, especially as DR Congo is set to assume the presidency of the African Union soon. Sisi affirmed that Egypt will support DR Congo during that stage.

He also expressed confidence in President Tshisekedi’s success to carry out the important responsibilities of leading the joint African action over the next year.
