CAIRO – 5 November 2020: In the 30th anniversary of the opening of The French-language international university in the service of African development "Senghor" in Alexandria on Wednesday, Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukrypraised the substantial role played by
Senghor University in training African cadres entrusted with the advancement of the continent and the position that the university has assumed as one of the best postgraduate bodies.
Shoukry reviewed the role that Egypt plays in Africa, especially during its Egypt’s presidency of the African Union last year, and its firm policy aimed at the advancement of the continent, and its adherence to joint African action, according to a statement from the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Egypt was keen to take concrete practical steps to implement the African Development Agenda 2063, including the entry into force of the African Free Trade Agreement.
“Minister Shoukry also referred to President El-Sisi's call for alleviating the debt burden of African countries in view of the Coronavirus pandemic crisis due to the severe pressures faced by their economies at the time when they were preparing for the launch phase to implement the Sustainable Development Agenda 2030. His Excellency also noted that Egypt stands with its African brethren, highlighting its provision of medical aid to many countries in the continent,” the statement said.
Eventually, Egypt has hosted the headquarters of Senghor University since 1989, where it grants a master's degree in development, and annually teaches more than 200 students from all French-speaking countries.
Also over 30 thousand years of high-ranking African cadres have graduated from the university and hold prestigious positions in their countries and at international levels.
