CAIRO – 31 October 2020: Egypt and Sudan have agreed upon reviving their joint project of a railway linking both countries, after a long hiatus due to the events that erupted in Sudan in 2019, and led to the ouster of Sudanese President Omar el-Bashir.
Below, et displays information about the project:
1- The railway extends with a length of about 900 km in both countries.
2- It starts from Alexandria, passing through Aswan towards Khartoum.
3- The Kuwaiti Fund for Economic Development offered to fund the project.
4- The first phase of the project extends from Aswan in Egypt to Halfa Oasis in Sudan.
5- The railway line passing in the Sudanese territories has a length of 250 km.
6- It is planned that this railway line will link all lands inside both countries in the future.
7- The implementation part of the project will take place in accordance with the specifications of the Egyptian railways.
8- This line will be designed to transport passengers and cargo.
9- The execution phase will start once the feasibility and technical studies are finalized.
10- A higher coordination committee will be formed to follow up the implementation of the project, and will include transport and foreign ministers of the two countries.
