CAIRO – 24 October 2020: Police women have been witnessed outside polling stations across different governorates to assist in securing the voting process, and maintain security preparations.

 

The first phase of the parliamentary elections kicked off Saturday amid tight security measures and anti-COVID-19 precautionary measures.

 

The police were deployed in the vicinity of polling stations in all Egyptian governorates to secure the electoral process of the House of Representatives election on Saturday.

 

Senior officers and directors inspected the police units to make sure security is top notch. The police were instructed to treat citizens well, especially the elderly and those with special needs.

 

The security plan includes the fluidity of traffic around polling station, guarding vital buildings, fixed and mobile checkpoints, and total readiness for an emergency.

 

The 2020 house elections are being held amid tightened anti-coronavirus precautionary measures with polling places nationwide got disinfected.

 

The first stage of the elections sees 1,879 individual candidates competing for seats in 71 districts as well as four coalition lists.

 

Throughout the day, the participation of women voters was significantly high, which appeared in queues that lined up outside polling stations.

 

The elections have taken place on October 21, 22 and 23 abroad, while in Egypt it will start on October 24, 25. In the event of repeating this stage, elections will be held on November 21, 22, 23 abroad, and on November 23, 24 in Egypt.
