CAIRO - 24 October 2020: Voting for 33 million eligible voters in the first phase of the 2020 House of Representatives elections kicked off Saturday in 14 governorates such as  Giza, Fayoum, Beni Suef, Minya, Assiut, El Wadi El Gedid, Sohag, Qena, Luxor, Aswan, Red Sea, Alexandria, Beheira, and Marsa Matrouh.
 
 
The polling stations started to receive voters as of 9 am till 9 pm, including a break for an hour between 3-4 pm, while the voting process of Egyptians overseas continues.
 
 
The 2020 house elections are being held amid tightened anti-coronavirus precautionary measures with polling places nationwide got disinfected.
 
 
The first stage of the elections sees 1,879 individual candidates competing for seats in 71 districts as well as four coalition lists.
 
 
National Election Authority (NEA), headed by Counselor Lasheen Ibrahim, has dedicated the hotline 19826 for receiving questions and complaints regarding the elections.
 
 
Also, the NEA has formed an operation room at its premises to follow up on the voting and counting processes and report complaints. 
 

The elections have taken place on October 21, 22 and 23 abroad, while in Egypt it will start on October 24, 25. In the event of repeating this stage, elections will be held on November 21, 22, 23 abroad, and on November 23, 24 in Egypt.

 

Red Sea Governorate

 

In Red Sea governorate, 109 polling stations opened doors to 292,508 eligible voters who will be casting their votes to elect three individual candidates amid beefed up security measures.

Luxor

 

As many as 283 polling stations in Luxor started to receive the 836,759 eligible voters who were advised to abide by the social distancing rules alongside other anti-coronavirus precautionary measures.

In Beheira governorate, 4.1 million eligible voters began to cast their ballots in the 2020 parliamentary elections at 653 polling stations, amid beefed up security and anti-coronavirus precautionary measures.

Aswan

In the Upper Egypt governorate of Aswan, 373 polling stations opened doors to some one million voters who will be picking five individual candidates, out of the total 84.

A high turnout is being observed in El Wadi El Gedid governorate where 60 polling stations started to receive the 178,315 eligible voters.

Marsa Matrouh governorate

In Marsa Matrouh governorate, 165 polling stations opened their doors to 302,763 eligible voters to pick two individuals candidates - out of the total 24 - and vote for two coalition lists.ش

As many as 339 polling stations in the Upper Egypt governorate of Qena opened their doors to almost 2.3 million eligible voters amid stepped up security and anti-Covid 19 precautionary measures.
