CAIRO - 21 October 2020: The Egyptian government takes raising awareness on sustainable development and governance to another level by launhcing 50 interactive training programs in both Arabic and English through an electronic platform, supporting distance education.
To be launched by Egypt's National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development, (NIGSD), this series ofprograms aims to raise awareness of sustainable development and governance.
In this context, Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development and Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the (NIGSD) emphasized that governance issues are one of the pivotal pillars of the development direction of the Egyptian state, as the Egyptian constitution stipulates adherence to standards of transparency and governance.
El-Said pointed out that the national agenda for achieving sustainable development, "Egypt Vision 2030", relied among its main pillar on transparency, the efficiency of institutions, and the development of an integrated system for good governance, which was confirmed in the modernization process of this vision.
She added that the Egyptian state has, in recent years, begun to translate the objectives related to strengthening good governance of institutions and society into steps and procedures on the ground, as this included developing performance and reforming the state’s administrative apparatus to raise the efficiency of institutions and create a business environment, and as one of the main ingredients to achieve comprehensive and sustainable development.
On the online platform that the institute will launch next week, El-Said stressed that this platform is a unique step at the regional level to raise awareness of the role of governance in sustainable development.
El-Said explained that the training programs that the institute will launch through this platform come within a set of targeted programs offered by the National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development within the framework of an integrated system for building and developing capabilities, and in light of the implementation of Egypt Vision 2030 by investing in the human element, which is the main engine for achieving the aspirations of the state.
In the same context, Dr. Sharifa Sherif, Executive Director of NIGSD, indicated that the online platform will include a set of training programs to raise awareness of sustainable development and governance targeting all groups of society, whether the government sector, the private sector or civil society, explaining that these programs fall under the category interactive programs.
Sharif added that the training programs were prepared in cooperation with UN Women, Missouri State University in the United States of America, and the Hans Seidel Foundation, stressing that partnerships with the best universities, colleges, and international educational institutes within the framework of supporting the qualification and training process; It contributes to empowering promising leaders, refining their experiences in dealing with contemporary challenges, and improving institutional performance by focusing on several basic issues and addressing them using an integrated training approach.
