CAIRO – 11 October 2020: Egypt welcomed on Saturday an agreement reached on the administration of the "Sinjar" district in Ninewa, northern Iraq, between the federal government of Iraq and the Kurdistan region government on Friday. 
 
 
“Egypt also expressed its support for the measures taken by the Iraqi government to counter extremism and terrorism, with a view to achieving security and stability across Iraq and preserving its sovereignty, in a manner that fulfills the brotherly Iraqi people’s aspirations for stability, development, and prosperity,” Egypt’s Foreign Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement.
 
Spokesperson of the Iraqi government Ahmed Mulla Talal announced on Friday that a historic agreement has been reached with the Kurdistan regional government to strengthen the authority of the federal government in Sinjar in accordance with the constitution, at the administrative and security levels.
 
He added in a tweet that the new agreement ends the power of “intruder groups, and paves the way for the reconstruction of the city and the return of its entire afflicted people.”
 
 
The step was welcomed by the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) welcomed the agreement, saying that it is a first and important step in the right direction.
 
 
 
The city of Singar, where the Yazidis were living, was captured by the Islamic State terrorist group (ISIS) in 2014, killing hundreds of people and raping women and girls, besides displacing hundred thousand of people.
