Egypt’s Grand Mufti: Al Jazeera Fabricated 2650 videos over 10 days

CAIRO – 3 October 2020: Egyptian Grand Mufti Shawqi Allam said on Friday that the Qatari-owned Al Jazeera channel has fabricated videos aiming at destabilizing the state over the past 10 days as it was monitored by Dar l-Iftaa’s Counter-terrorism Observatory.

 

In an interview with “Nadhra” talk show on Sada al-Balad T.V., the Mufti added that the Observatory issued more than 500 reports about suspicious fatwas (Islamic decisions) and the Dar al-Iftaa is working on rectifying them.

 

On September 28, 2020, a fabricated video was published by the Qatari-owned Al Jazeera channel, changing a wedding celebration into an alleged demonstration against the government in Egypt.

 

An Egyptian Citizen Called Adel Ezelregal based in Dakahlia governorate wrote on his social media account that he was surprised to see himself in one of the videos as he was attending a wedding event in a nearby village; however, the video was fabricated with fake voices of chanting against president Sisi to seem like an angry protest, while it was actually a wedding.

 

He added, “Please take care of what is happening; The Muslim Brotherhoods are taking pictures of all social events and gatherings to install the demonstrations' sounds over it to use it again on social media as protests in Egypt.

 

This is, however, not the first incident for Al Jazeera channel to fabricate videos and news about Egypt aiming at undermining the state and incite chaos in the country.

 

On September 25, Al Jazeera channel published a fake video claiming that dozens of people chanted against President El Sisi.

 

The Qatari channel’s fabricated coverage came within the anti-Egypt campaign that has been launched by Egyptian fugitive contractor Mohamed Ali, who incited the people to take to streets to protest against President Sisi on Friday.

 

Al Jazeera published footage showing people chant against President Sisi; however, AFP reported that that video is an old one and dated back to 2013, adding that the sound of the video was inserted.

 

The fabricated video also went viral on pro-Muslim Brotherhood trolls’ accounts on social media platforms and their channels.
