Danish FM hails Egypt’s successful efforts to halt illegal immigration

CAIRO – 27 September 2020: Denmark’s Foreign Minister Jeppe Kofod hailed Egypt’s efforts to halt illegal immigration and successfully stop the flow of migrants illegally throughout the past few years, as he met with his Egyptian counterpart, Sameh Shoukry, in Cairo.

Meeting at the Egyptian Foreign Ministry’s headquarters, the two ministers have discussed the need to continue efforts to face extremism and terrorist acts, in a way that helps achieve regional security and stability.

Shoukry and Kofod also discussed a number of regional issues. The Egyptian minister reviewed Egypt’s efforts to achieve political and security stability in Libya, including communicating with all Libyan parties to ensure a ceasefire announcement is maintained.

Shoukry also affirmed Egypt’s keenness to push forward efforts to preserve the unity and sovereignty of the Libyan state and its national institutions.

Concerning the Palestinian cause in light of recent developments, the ministers urged continuous efforts to reach a comprehensive and just settlement to the issue, based on the two-state solution and in accordance with international legitimacy decisions.

Earlier this month, Egyptian and French foreign ministers have agreed on the necessity to secure the legitimate interests of the Palestinian people, as they met on the sidelines of a quadripartite ministerial meeting on developments in the Palestinian issue, an official statement read.

The meeting which was held on Thursday between the foreign ministers of Egypt, Jordan, France and Germany in the Jordanian capital of Amman aimed at advancing peace efforts in the Middle East, in light of latest developments in the Palestinian issue.

Shoukry and his French counterpart, Jean-Yves Le Drian, during their meeting, have agreed on the need to enhance peace efforts to reach a comprehensive and fair settlement to the Palestinian issue.
