CAIRO- 25 September 2020: A new batch of 22 Transmashholding railcars arrived in Egypt’s Alexandria port, upping the total number of the new Russian railcars to 103, announced Egyptian Minister of Transportation Kamel Al-Wazir in a statement on Friday.
The new batch is part of a deal between the ministry and the Russian Transmashholding company to export Egypt 1,3000 railway locomotives. The deal, which is worth at 16.5 billion euros, is the largest agreement ever in the ministry’s history.
Other thirty-three railcars had been delivered over two batches in May and July. That is in addition to the model unit shipped earlier, and that was being experimented. It entered service and is being used to carry passengers, a source at the Egyptian Railway Authority (ERA) told Egypt Today on August 22, 2020.
