CAIRO – 23 September 2020: Under the auspices of the Egyptian Intelligence, Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM) signed Wednesday a Memorandum of Understanding with the Sudanese Democratic Union Party in the Egyptian capital of Cairo.

The MOU was signed between the leader of SLM Suliman Arcua and the leader of the Democratic Union Party Osman Aal-Merghani in order to unify the vision in dealing with Sudan’s multiple crises and paving the way for a democratic state where all citizens are equal.

The two leaders discussed several topics going within the current transition in Sudan, and the latest peace agreements signed in August in the South Sudanese capital of Juba. The MOU came as part of the current efforts to restore peace in Sudan, according to the two leaders.

The MOU stated that equal citizenship should be the only standard to receive basic and civil rights, as the country’s wealth should be distributed between all the country’s regions according to each region’s population.

The MOU also calls for the implementation of what is called “positive discrimination” whereby the regions historically affected by wars, conflicts, and neglect should be compensated.

The MOU addressed the unjust laws and marginalization enforced by Sudan’s successive regimes on several Sudanese regions, case in point, the ethnic cleansing in Darfur region during the ruling of the ousted Sudanese regime.

The two parts have also agreed on realizing the criminal justice regarding the atrocities committed by the ousted government during the years of the civil conflict, and have the perpetrators of such atrocities before independent trials.

The MOU has also urged the inclusion of all the political powers in the current transitional government to represent all the sectors of the Sudanese people.

The two parts have also decided to form a common committee to oversee the current democratic transition.

After the signing of the MOU, the leader of SLM, Arcua, was keen to express his appreciation for the Egyptian role in restoring peace and stability in Sudan, case in point, the recent Egyptian aid to those affected by the devastating floods in Sudan.
