Egypt launches ' Sinai Comprehensive Operation' two-tier medal

CAIRO – 20 September 2020: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi ratified on Sunday a decree launching a two-tier medal that will be awarded to military personnel who took part in "Sinai Comprehensive Operation."

The gold tier will be given to officers while the silver tier will be given to non-commissioned officers.

The operation was launched on February 9, 2018 to militarily combat terrorism in North Sinai after an attack had killed 300 worshippers at Al Rawda Mosque located in Beir Al Abd District in November 2017.  

The operation resulted in the elimination of many terrorist hideouts and elements as well as arms and vehicles used in attacks. On the other hand, human losses also occurred among the officers and conscripts of the Egyptian Armed Forces.
