CAIRO – 16 September 2020: A total of 20 companies were referred to prosecution over not publicly announcing the prices of their products on social media pages.
"The pages of these companies will be panelized over the recurring practice of answering customers’ questions about the price in direct messages only," said Ahmed Samir Farag, acting head of the Consumer Protection Agency.
Farag revealed the details of the decision of referring the companies to the prosecution because they violated the law, and insisted on not announcing the prices of products. He explained that the law stipulates “announcing the specifications of products that are sold electronically, with the price also being announced.”
According to Farag, a fine will be imposed on pages and companies that violated the standards of announcing the products’ prices.
He emphasized that the agency interferes in some real estate problems, such as misleading advertising and delivery.
