CAIRO – 15 September 2020: Two historical peace deals signed Tuesday in the White House between The United Arab of Emirates, Israel and Bahrain.
UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Abdullah bin Zayed, Bahrain’s minister of foreign affairs Abdullatif Al-Zayani and Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu lead official delegations to sign the ‘peace deal’ which was brokered by the United States and President Donald Trump.
“This historic diplomatic breakthrough will advance peace in the Middle East region and is a testament to the bold diplomacy and vision of the three leaders and the courage of the United Arab Emirates and Israel to chart a new path that will unlock the great potential in the region. All three countries face many common challenges and will mutually benefit from today’s historic achievement,” a joint statement announcing UAE, Israel peace deal on August 13 read.
The agreement of normalization includes having “bilateral agreements regarding investment, tourism, direct flights, security, telecommunications, technology, energy, healthcare, culture, the environment, the establishment of reciprocal embassies, and other areas of mutual benefit,” the statement added.
“Opening direct ties between two of the Middle East's most dynamic societies and advanced economies will transform the region by spurring economic growth, enhancing technological innovation, and forging closer people-to-people relations,” the statement continued.
The peace deal announced on August 13 by President Trump was welcomed internationally and by Egypt’s President Abdel Fatah al Sisi who praised the agreement saying that it will “bring peace to the Middle East,” adding “I value the efforts that were exerted by those who in charge of this agreement in order to achieve prosperity and stability for our region.”
Before starting the signing ceremony, Trump held separate meetings with UAE Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed, Bahrain’s minister of foreign affairs Abdullatif Al-Zayani and Israel PM Benjamin Netanyahu.
“The UAE is happy and lucky to take part in the peace process” bin Zayed said during participating in the signing.
On Friday, Trump announced on twitter reaching an agreement of normalization between Bahrein and Israel.
“Another HISTORIC breakthrough today! Our two GREAT friends Israel and the Kingdom of Bahrain agree to a Peace Deal – the second Arab country to make peace with Israel in 30 days!” Trump wrote on twitter.
Trump also posted a tripartite statement between the U.S., Bahrein And Israel announcing the agreement. "This is a historic breakthrough to further peace in the Middle East" that will "increase stability, security, and prosperity in the region", the statement read.
Egypt’s Sisi welcomed in a tweet the “Bahrain- Israel” peace agreement, saying it’s a “step towards establishing stability, peace in the Middle East”.
“I have followed with great interest the tripartite statement issued by the United States of America, Bahrain and Israel regarding consensus on establishing diplomatic relations between Bahrain and Israel. And as I value this important step towards establishing stability, peace in the Middle East, in a way that achieves a just and permanent settlement of the Palestinian cause; I thank all those responsible for implementing this historical step”, Sisi wrote.
