CAIRO – 8 September 2020: The Egyptian Public Prosecution said Tuesday that it launched an investigation into the death of a citizen at El Monib neighborhood in Giza.

The Prosecution Office said in a statement that it has received a report from the police on September 4 on a quarrel that escalated to a fight by knives between two groups which ended up with the death of one citizen called “Eslam”.

The victim’s mother and sister accused the police of killing Eslam, claiming that the latter was killed as he refused an order to evacuate the building where he lives as it violates the law.

The Prosecution Office inspected the crime scene, interrogated the eyewitnesses, and checked surveillance cameras installed at stores where the fight took place. The authorities have also checked the body of the deceased which is kept at “Om al Masreyeen” hospital, reporting that it sustained several abrasions.

A medical examiner has been summoned to carry out an autopsy to find out the reason behind the death and whether it matches the testimonies given by the eyewitnesses and the footages taken by surveillance cameras, said the Prosecution Office.
