CAIRO – 5 September 2020: Egyptian transport minister Kamel el Wazir went Saturday to Alexandria to celebrate the arrival of the fifth batch which consists of  30 train engines supplied by General Electric and transported by sea.

The number of the US manufactured train engines became 100 by the arrival of the fifth batch as part of the contract between the Egyptian Ministry of Transportation and the General Electric, 10 train engines are left.

The new train engines will replace the current ones used on the Egyptian railway.

The Egyptian Ministry of Transportation had a contract with US General Electric to manufacture 110 train engines, rehabilitate and provide spare parts for 81 out of service train engines.

The $602 million contract also included providing maintenance and spare parts for 181 train engines for 15 years, training of 30 engineers and 245 railway technicians at General Electric factories.
