CAIRO – 5 September 2020: Egypt’s Attorney General ordered on Saturday to refer woman prosecutor accused of insulting a police officer to criminal court, after a video of her assaulting him physically and verbally while he performs his job went viral on social media.

The assault by the woman has left wounds on the officer, in addition to intentionally damaging properties that she does not possess resulting in financial damage.

Reactions on social media varied as most of the users who reacted to the issue think the woman’s actions were inappropriate, while some others think the officer went too far and others preferred to stay neutral.

Investigations by the public prosecution has resulted in accusing the woman with physically attacking the police officer and refusing to wear the medical mask in accordance with the precautionary measures.

The “Public Prosecution” had asked a lawyer and a worker who were present at the court at the time of the incident, and they affirmed that the woman assaulted the officer and damaged properties. However, she denied the allegations and said she had to defend herself in the way appearing in the video after the officer started a jangle with her, snatched her phone and arrested her.

The "Public Prosecution" had examined the defendant's phone and found six photographs taken from inside the court, in which some employees appeared, and that they were captured on the day of the incident.

The prosecution said it interrogated the officer, who confirmed that he intervened when he saw the prosecutor using her phone to film employees while performing their duty. He said he notified her that this act is not allowed and that it is a punishable crime, adding that she assaulted him so he had to arrest her.
