CAIRO – 2 September 2020: Egyptian authorities decided Wednesday to jail businessman Salah Diab 15 days pending investigation into charges of financial violations.
The owner of the daily newspaper Al Masry Al-Youm is accused of evading LE11 billion ($693 million) of taxes money to the state and illegally seizing lands on which he built his La Poire factories.
The firms owned by Diab were charged of committing financial violations years ago, and he was offered a settlement. Yet, no settlements have been achieved until present.
It is noted this is the second time he gets arrested as he and his son "Tawfik" were charged in 2015 of possessing unlicensed arms and bullets but they were cleared by the court in 2017.
