CAIRO – 24 August 2020: In a meeting with Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Zurab Pololikashvili on Monday, President Abdel Fattah El Sisi discussed Egypt’s strategic measures of resuming tourism to achieve a balance between the return of in tourism prosperity in Egypt, and ensuring the safety and the health of tourists and workers in the tourism sector, stated the Egyptian spokesperson Bassam Radi in a statement on Monday.
President Sisi talked about the state’s development projects in tourism sector such as building the tourist cities of Galala and Alamein, the new city of Culture and Arts, the New Administrative Capital, the Grand Egyptian Museum, the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization, and the Great Transfiguration Project in Sinai, Radi added.
The meeting also tackled the project of Historic Cairo development to raise the awareness of the Egyptian cultural heritage, Radi continued.
The UNWTO secretary general praised the measures taken by Egypt to gradually resume the international tourism, expressing the aspiration of the organization’s strong cooperation with Egypt to get benefits from the Egyptian reform model in tourism sector through unifying the Ministries of Tourism and Antiquities into one institutional entity.
Pololikashvili arrived in Cairo on Saturday evening in an official visit to Egypt to be the first official visit outside the European Union since the outbreak of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in March.
On his official Twitter account, Pololikashvili expressed his gratitude to President Sisi for his meeting, pledging to support for Egypt’s tourism sector.

Pololikashvili’s visit came at Anani’s invitation. The visit included holding a number of bilateral talks and meetings with Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouli and investors in the tourism sector, besides visiting a number of museums and archaeological and tourist sites in Egypt.
