CAIRO – 24 August 2020: The Libyan National Army spokesperson General Ahmed El Mesmari said Sunday that the Tripoli government and Turkey are misleading the public opinion to attack Sirte city.

El Mesmari added the Turkish Minister of Defence Hulusi Akar met Sunday with Tripoli government’s officials in order to discuss attacking Sirte despite a current ceasefire.

He said that Turkish frigates and warships were spotted off Sirte coast in attacking positions, adding that the LNA is ready to foil any attack.

The military spokesperson also said that terrorism is spreading all over Libya under international auspices.

The Egyptian government has warned earlier of a possible military intervention in Libya in case Sirte or Jufra cities were attacked by Turkey or outlawed militias backed by it.

In July, the Egyptian House of Representatives has authorized President Abdel Fatah el-Sisi to “take necessary measures” to protect national security, giving a green light for the president to send troops to Libya.
