Egypt's government has plan to develop Nile river transportation means: Minister

CAIRO – 16 August 2020: Egypt is facing a shortage of Nile river transportation means, revealed Minister of Transport, Eng. Kamel Al-Wazir during the inauguration of the fourth phase of Cairo Metro 3rd line on Sunday.

Wazir announced that the ministry made an ambitious plan to develop this sector via the dredging and cleaning the navigational course of the Nile River.

He added that the ministry will establish a database to manage and control all Nile boats and houseboats.

The volume of the Ministry of Transport's projects planned from June 30, 2014 to June 30, 2024, recorded LE 1.1 trillion, including LE 377 billion in the field of roads and bridges, he said in his speech when he was reviewing transport projects over the past few years at the inauguration of Adly Mansour station, in the presence of President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi.

In a speech during the inauguration of the fourth phase of the third line of Cairo Metro, which connects Imamba in Giza with the Cairo International Airport area, President Abdel Fatah El Sisi said that the development constructions and projects that the country is carrying out cost billions of pounds.

“The [infrastructure works] are being financed by huge amount of money. The state is keen to improve the lives of people in all sectors,” he said, adding that the construction works and other projects were financed in loans.
