CAIRO – 12 August 2020: "On International Youth Day, I express appreciation to Egypt's promising and zealous youth, who represent Egypt's real power in its sacred battle for existence and construction. It's by our youth's willpower, we go through challenges. I affirm that the Egyptian state is always and eternally willing to support its youth to achieve their dreams and hopes for the future," President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi tweeted.
August 12 has been designated International Youth Day by the United Nations since 2000.
Since President Sisi took office in 2014, the government has held almost a dozen of national youth conferences. Each was held in a different governorate to ensure the engagement of youth across the country. The president also launched in 2017 the World Youth Forum (WYF), of which three editions took place. The forums consisted of around nine parallel sessions and workshops daily for almost a week offering a platform for youth from around the globe to share their success stories, experience, and research projects, and to hold dialogue with panelists who are experts in various fields and international officials. Youth with remarkable achievements receive awards in the closing ceremony.
