CAIRO - 9 August 2020: The National Election Authority has answered the 12 most common questions from Egyptians abroad regarding their vote in the 2020 Senate election. Below is the Q&A.
 
1 - When do Egyptians abroad cast their votes in the 2020 Senate elections?
 
Voting in the first round begins Aug. 9 at 9 a.m. and ends Aug. 10 at 9 p.m. The runofff begins Sept. 6 at 9 a.m. and ends Sept. 7 at 9 p.m. at the local time of the country where the voters resides. The Egyptian embassies will continue to receive mail votes until Aug. 12 at 9 p.m. and Sept. 9 at 9 p.m. in the runoff. No votes beyond these time frames will be accepted. 
 
2 - Can I vote outside Egypt without prior registeration?
 
Registeration at www.elections.eg was available July 25, 2020-July 31,2020. If you did not register, you would not be able to vote at this time.
 
3 - I lost my registeration code. What do I do?
 
The cose is sent to your email upon registeration. You can revisit it in your inboc or you can click on "retrieve code" in the page of Egyptians abroad at www.elections.eg. It will be sent to your email.
 
4 - How can I send me vote via mail?
 
Egyptians abroad who have registered on the website of the National Electin Authority should do the following:
a - Prepare an envelope without any distinctive marks.
b - Prepare larger envelope that can contain the first one and the other papers required.
c - Prepare the a copy document proving your residency in the country you live.
d - Prepare a copy of your valid national identity card or your passport, both should include your national ID number.
c - Print the two ballots and the adoption of voting from the website.
d - Insert the two ballots inside the envelope and seal it without writing any data on it.
e - Fill in the adopting of voting, sign it and put it with the first envelope inside the large envelope.
f - Go in person to a government post office and send the large envelope via express mail to the address of the diplomatic mission in the respective country in the designated dates.
g - In a PDF form, you can download the ballots and lists competing in the electoral district of the address documented in your national ID card, as well as the adoption of vote that already has all your data from the page of Egyptian abroad at www.elections.eg.
You must write your name in full as written on the natinoal ID card and to leave a handwritten signature on the places required in the document.
 
8 - How many candidates or lists should I choose?
 
In the case of the district with single candidates, choose a number of candidates that equal the number of seats designated for your district. That number of noted on top of the ballot of that district. Do not choose more or less than that number or your vote would be void. In the case of district with multinumber lists, choose "vote" or "no vote" when there is one list in the ballot.
 
9 - What is the best way to vote to guarantee my vote won't be void?
a - Do not use a pencil.
b - Leave a clear mark in the designated place only.
c - Do not put any writing, mark or sign that hint at your identity.
d - Do not write anything on the small envelope that contains the ballots.
e - Go to the government post office in person during the voting days set by the National Election Authority and request that the post office prove the date of mailing on the larger envelope. 
f - Make sure all the papers are complete and filled in correctly.
 
10 - I do not have a national ID card. What do I do?
 
Those who have never produced a national ID card before the elections are not registed in the voter database and won't be able to vote at this time. You can produce a national ID card through Egyptian embassies or diplomatic missions in the country where you reside to vote in the next polls.
 
11 - I do not have an Egyptian passport. What do I do?
 
You can send a copy of your valid national ID card or a passport that includes your  Egyptian national ID number, given the card is valid at the time of casting your vote via mail.
 
12 - Does registering to vote abroad apply on next polls?
 
Registeration applies on to the 2020 Senate election and will not apply on next polls. You would need to register again for upcoming elections.
