BEIRUT, Aug 8 (MENA) - Arab League (AL) Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit voiced the AL's “unequivocal support” to Lebanon until it overcomes the disastrous humanitarian repercussions caused by Tuesday's deadly explosion that hit Beirut port.
The AL chief was speaking in a press conference held on Saturday at Baabda Palace after the end of his talks with Lebanese President Michel Aoun.
The AL chief asserted the great Arab solidarity with Lebanon in its ordeal.
Abul Gheit also voiced the AL's readiness to offer help and solidarity as regards mobilizing Arab support to assist Lebanon.
He expressed his satisfaction with the Arab reaction in this regard, saying that the Arab countries rushed to offer medical and relief needs and material to Lebanon.
He pointed out that he aimed to get acquainted with the needs of Lebanon at the current stage to convey them to the Arab and international community and the UN.
The AL plans to add a new clause on the constant and unequivocal support to Lebanon to the agenda of the Economic and Social Council which will convene soon, he said.
