CAIRO – 1 August 2020: The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement Saturday on which it voiced its objection against Turkey’s announcement of conducting a seismic survey in the Mediterranean sea from July 21st to August 2nd.
“Commenting on the Turkish navigational warning that announces that a Turkish ship will conduct the seismic survey during the period between July 21st to August 2nd, The Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Ahmed Hafez said that Egypt objects the warning’s interference with a complete Egyptian economic area, asserting that such action violates the UN convention on the Law of the Sea and the International law, it is also considered as a violation of Egypt’s sovereign rights in its economic area in the Mediterranean, stating that Egypt does not recognize any outcomes of action taking place in the aforementioned area,” read the statement.
The Greek government has previously rejected the Turkish exploration in the eastern Mediterranean, amid a seismic survey that is conducted by the Turkish ship Oruc Reis, according to World Oil.
