CAIRO – 25 July 2020: The Egyptian Military Spokesperson said Saturday that the Egyptian Navy executed joint military drills with the French navy in the Mediterranean sea.
“As part of the General Command of the Armed Forces’ plan to upgrade the training level and exchange experiences with the military forces of a friend and sister country, the Egyptian and French Navy executed joint drills that included the Egyptian frigate “Long Live Egypt” and the French frigate “ACONIT”, read the military spokesperson’s statement.
“The drills included several activities of professional nature that focused on tactics of cooperation during the execution of sea combat missions against hostile naval forces, along with using ammunition against air and ground targets. The drills also included the execution of battles using seaborne aircraft," read the statement.
The training revealed the professional capability of the ship crews in performing combat missions with efficiency and accuracy, and with focus on coordination between the involved elements,” added the statement.
Egypt has conducted in November a set of joint military exercises with Greece and Cyprus amid tensions with Turkey for its unlawful drilling operations in the area.
Earlier this month, the main branches of the Egyptian Armed Forces on Thursday carried out the “Hasm 2020” maneuver on the Western strategic direction, including a training for the Air Force to face mercenaries of irregular armies and target their hotbeds.

Minister of Defense Mohamed Zaki and Chief-of-staff of the Army Mohamed Farid attended the training. The maneuver has continued for many days.
During the training, a number of helicopters have raided and destroyed a hideout housing a number of mercenaries. Also, under the cover of artillery fire, acts of warfare have been carried out within the framework of the maneuver. Also, live ammunition was fired by military tanks.
The Egyptian parliament has previously approved a military intervention in Libya to put an end to the violations of the unlawful armed militias affilaited with GNA government and backed by the Turkish regime.
