CAIRO – 23 July 2020: Egypt’s First Lady Entissar Amer on Thursday congratulated the Egyptian people on the 1952 Revolution, which abolished the monarchy, saying it “constitutes a defining moment in the history of Egypt.”

The revolution was triggered by the “Free Officers Movement” to end the British occupation of the country and secure the independence of Sudan, according to the announced goals.

In a Facebook post, Amer said the revolution was “added to the struggle records of the Egyptian people and its Armed Forces in defending their homeland, and to live while holding their heads high, in full dignity.”

Egypt's 23 Revolution - and beyond: challenges and gains

CAIRO - 23 July 2020: "Abdel Nasser was a patriot who extremely loved his nation ... and his Arab World," Egypt's President Abdel Fattah El Sisi said earlier, when asked about his opinion about the late president who led the July 23, 1952 Revolution. The revolution overthrew King Farouk, abolished monarchy and established the republic.

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Thursday greeted the people on the 68th anniversary of the revolution led by a group of military officers initially to overthrow King Farouk.

“Our celebration of the glorious July revolution anniversary has always been an occasion from which we gain determination, persistence and will to achieve the aspiration and hopes of our people to have a promising future for them and for the next generations,” President Sisi said in a televised speech.

Sisi said the change made by the July Revolution in Egypt would extend to Africa and the entire Arab region.

He saluted late President Mohamed Naguib, describing him as “the symbol” of the revolution, and its leader, Gamal Abdel Nasser, who had served as president from 1954 until he died in 1970.

Sisi said the Egyptian state completes the path of the 1952 revolution through continuing to implement a comprehensive strategic vision and a unique development epic to build a homeland that is advanced in all fields.

Threats to our national security crucially require “national alignment” and make us “more keen to have the comprehensive and influential ability to protect rights and gains” of the Egyptian people, the President added.
