CAIRO - 20 July 2020: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi directed the government to activate a new system of waste management, in light of Egypt’s efforts in improving the environmental, health and living conditions of citizens, reducing pollution, and setting up a national industry for waste management that could provide new job opportunities, according to a statement from the Presidency on Monday.

 

President Sisi’s comments came during a meeting with Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouli, Environment Minister Yasmine Fouad, and Local Development Minister Mahmoud Shaarawy.

 

President Sisi was updated on the latest developments in the local Management system of solid waste, said Presidential spokesperson  Bassam Radi in the statement.

 

Minister Fouad stated that the Environment Ministry is in cooperation with the concerned ministries to activate the system as fast as possible, noting that the ministry is working on promoting the people’s awareness of how to deal with waste.

 

Fouad added that the new system will integrate the informal sector, and will enhance recycling in cooperation with foreign expertise.

 

The meeting has tackled the issuance of a law for waste management, Radi said.
