CAIRO, July 15 (MENA) - Arab League (AL) Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit on Wednesday underlined the importance of the Cairo Declaration initiative on Libya that has been announced recently by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.

In an interview with MENA board chairman and chief editor, he added that the declaration is outlining a road map for settling the Libyan crisis.

He also pointed out that the declaration sets the steps and mechanisms for dealing with the Libyan situation at the military, security, political and economic levels.

As for the stance of the AL regarding regional and international interference in Libya, he pointed out that the AL is rejecting and condemning all forms of interference in Libya.

Libya is an important Arab country and the AL can not accept that Libya would be a theater for foreign military interference.

Abul Gheit said that he was clear in his speech at an AL meeting on Libya on June 23 that the situation there became dangerous in light of a growing internationalization of the crisis and increasing foreign interference along with carrying mercenaries to the Arab country.

He pointed out that the Arab foreign ministers, at their meeting on Libya, were clear when they expressed full rejection of any interference in Libya.

Abul Gheit underlined an Arab commitment to the sovereignty of Libya and its national unity. He confirmed that the AL can not accept any division in Libya.

He added that there is an Arab and international agreement that the only way out of the crisis in Libya is stopping all forms of fighting and stopping all forms of foreign military interference there while resuming the political process.

He noted that the AL is coordinating with the United Nations regarding the situation in Libya for reaching a political settlement there.

Answering a question on the Turkish ambitions in Arab resources through its interference in Syria, Iraq and Libya, he said that the AL stance is clear rejecting Turkish interference in the Arab affairs.

As for the situation in the Palestinian territories, he noted that all Israeli plots to annex more territories are rejected not only by the Palestinians but also by the Arabs and international community.
