Funeral amid feast’s celebration

Cairo – 25 June 2017: In the early morning of Eid al-Fitr, the Islamic feast held at the end of the holy month of Ramdan, Muslims are keen to participate in the feast’s prayers. Celebrations are everywhere and balloons and candies are distributed among the children. Everyone is happy with their new clothing and people greet each other on the streets.

For one family in particular, this Eid has been marked with tears and sadness for a loved one lost. The scene was very unusual for everyone in Al Sadiq Mosque in the Sheraton district. The black of mourning stood in contrast to the overwhelmingly colorful décor of the feast.

Whispers and muted conversations were had among prayers who saw the coffin; some prayed for the dead with mercy and were pleased that he passed away in the holy month of Ramdan and the feast, while others were sympathetic towards the family of the deceased who will spend the feast in grief.
